Anxiety On A Cold Dark Halloween Night…?

Anxiety is much more common than you think....especially on nights like Halloween. The latest polls show that 37% of women and 33% of men suffer from anxiety on a regular basis.

A lot of anxiety is related to thoughts of something bad happening in the future. This is a natural process and under normal scenarios no response is needed. The issue is seen when these terrible thoughts happen on a daily basis (or even several times a day) and thus interfering with every day life.

The common physical signs of anxiety on the body are:

  • a churning feeling in your stomach

  • feeling light-headed or dizzy

  • pins and needles

  • feeling restless or unable to sit still

  • headaches, backache or other aches and pains

  • faster breathing

  • a fast, thumping or irregular heartbeat

  • sweating or hot flushes

  • sleep challenges

  • grinding your teeth, especially at night

Three of the best hacks to bypass anxiety:

DIVE RIGHT IN

Attempt to do the very thing that you are anxious about.

Avoidance can cause you short term relief but will do nothing to decrease anxiety in the long term. By doing the one thing that bring you fear you will learn that your terrible thoughts of what may happen might not be as accurate as you originally thought.

MEDITATION

There are many types of meditation but the thing they all have in common is that, over time, they can all help lower stress levels.

By releasing physical tension held in the body, meditation can help us release worries buried in the mind, easing anxiety, stress and low mood, and even helping you get deeper, more restful sleep. For the best results, build a regular meditation practice into your daily routine.

SOURSOP

Serotonin is a key hormone for bodily functions as well as stabilizing moods, feelings of happiness, and wellness. It also helps with sleeping. Drinking soursop tea or consuming powdered Soursop fruit promotes the release of serotonin which helps in calming the body. In the West Indies, Soursop is commonly used as a calming agent. In the Netherlands Antilles, the leaves are brewed to make a beverage that enhances sleep. The leaves can also be put into one's pillowcase to enhance sleep. For this reason, a soursop leaf tea can be a great natural supplement to relieve the body of stress and sleep deprivation.
